These inscriptions (from a historical area in Chengdu, China) are literally thousands of years old.
It's rather rare that you get to walk around in the midst of such history.

i think its the lucky symbol for longlivity, i painted it on mei bedroom wall. i no wondering its so old, ist longlivity ;)

It is these intricacies of carvings, pieces of history, embedded bits of the past found everywhere that are one of my favorite parts of visiting other countries.  I lived in Paris for a time (exquisite buildings & history in that city, too) and traveled to many countries, but never as far as China :(    This is a lovely photograph!
